How to create thumbnails in Win 7 64 bit explorer

I would like to view thumbnail images in Windows explorer.  Microsoft had the update, but it was necessary to first validate my copy of Win 7.  When I tried to validate, the response was "This version of Genuine Advantage Validation Tool is no longer supported".  I could not find a newer version of the Genuine Advantage Validation Tool.    Many of my picture files from XP are identified by numbers, so I have to open them one by one to find the right one.  So, how do I enable thumbnails in explorer?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

For image browsing, I rather like XNview though (free)
That's because you can set the thumbnail size yourself.
