linked excel file in an access database for multiple user

I have an Access database that includes a linked data table to an Excel file located in an external network drive where the database can be accessed by multiple users.

Is there a way to have the same Access database opened by multiple users when I have a data table linked to Excel? Currently the database can only be opened by one user at a time. If more than one user tries to access the database it will not open because I have an external link to an Excel file that cannot be accessed because Access tries to access the file in a writeable mode. I tried setting the properties of the Excel file to open "read only" but this still prevents the database from accessing the file...

Waiting for your advise.

Not really. Excel is single user.
But, as you have read-only access to the Excel-file, why not just import it to a table?

You could create a function - to call before a user access this table - that imports the Excel data to have updated data as, I guess, the Excel file is updated from another source on a regular basis.
