squid web proxy question

I have installed web proxy (squid) on webserver.  I am new to proxy setup. When request comes for web server, squid first check and pass it to web server or in client we  point it to proxy(my case squid), and then squid get the packets and pass them to http.

Thanks in avance

Normally what you want to do is put the proxy squid server IP and port inside your browser. for IE this is under Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings. In this area check "Use a proxy server for your LAN....."

you will put in the IP of the proxy (squid) server you already created and the port number (usually it's 8080).

What happens then, is whenever you go to a website, IE sends that request to your proxy (squid) server. The proxy (squid) server then takes the request and sends it to the internet. since i am not sure of your network setup I am assuming you already have your proxy (squid) server setup to either scan the traffic locally or send it to another server (on the internet probably) for scanning.

We use Mcafee (formely mxlogic.net) to do something similar. Mcafee gives me a custom squid install that i put on a server. I then point all of my web browsers to pass all web traffic to that squid server. Since the software is custom from Mcafee is already has settings that send the traffic to their web servers on the internet for inspections of spyware, malware, content, etc.

You can set up so called transparent proxy, so your clients don't need to mess with web browser options.
