SQL delay

I have a major development on several sites which was developed in VB6 using a SQL database.  As you would assume there are several occasions where data is writen to tables.  The application has been on site for many years and has been working under MS SQL exclusively beginning with 2000, and progressing through to 2008.  In the last few weeks the application has been operating on one site under 2012 and I have hit snags.  Some transactions are taking far longer to run with noticable pauses in the application while SQL writes data to tables.

Can anybody provide some general advise on tweating performance before I start sending code snips>

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Check you're using the ODBC for SQL 2012. Then try setting the ODBC to log what's going on and look at that for clues..
