Volume Shadow Copy requester errors in Cobian 11 Gravity backup software on Windows 8 Pro PC

We have Cobian 11 Gravity backup software and works super, but lately we are getting these 2 errors:

ERR 2013-10-06 12:46 Timed out while waiting for an answer from the Volume Shadow Copy requester

ERR 2013-10-06 12:47 Couldn't contact the Volume Shadow Copy requester. Please check that the service is

We have googled the problem but can't seem to locate clear instruction on how to resolve it.

We found a link that discusses "Shadow Copy" (see link http://www.wikihow.com/Reduce-Shadow-Copy-on-Windows-Vista), but we don't want to try it since don't know the effect on Windows 8 and don't know if its relating to Cobian Backup.

Note: we noticed that even if we get thos error, there is some backup done, so we are confuse on what to do.

Please advice.

NOTE:
if it's any help, just checked services and found "Virtual Disk" (not started) and "Volume Shadow Copy" (running).

Hi.

To gain further insight, please try to create a system restore point and see if that works or if it fails, too. System restore uses shadow copy as well.

We had a problem yesterday not related to Cobian backup and we made a backup just about 5 hours ago.  All been working fine, only Cobian issue when we wanted to run backup.

Same problem.

What about the virtual disk service, should we stated?
0
McKnifeCommented:
No, the virtual disk service does not matter here.
Ok, so obviously, the backup software relies on shadow copy and sh. copy is the problem, not only the Cobian software, although we cannot be sure that Cobian's software has not caused the problem.

We had that problem on some of our computers: shadow copy stopped working and afterwards, no images could be produced. After lengthy analysis, it came to light that the backup software made changes to the registry that somehow irritated shadow copy.

Let me go to work tomorrow so I can look it up and tell you where to look for it.

Ok thanks.

So you think we should uninstall it completely with an apps that also cleans up registry entries like revo uninstaller and reinstall it?

The following is the images of all 3 apps:

- Virtual Disk (which I have turned off based on your observation)
- Volume Shadow Copy (running)

Check whether .NET 3.5 is installed property in your Windows 8.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx

Proper running of Volume Shadow Copy depends on proper installation of .NET 3.5.

No, I did not advise you to uninstall, but wait until I have looked up how our solution looked like. I am at the office now and able to see it.
We had to delete the following reg entries:
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SNAPSHOD0
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SNAPSHOD0
Please note that this will not help you directly, because you run a different Imaging program than we do - we run drive snapshot.
But maybe cobian works in a similar way and registers some service at HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root or HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ - please investigate and if found, rename it and reboot and test.
