Adding a second IP Subnet to our LAN

Hi all :)

Here is the current setup:

Win 2003 AD domain (single)
HP procurve layer 3 main network (LAN) switch.
HP procurve 7102dl firewall/router
Numerous non-layer 3 LAN switches hanging off the Procurve network switch.
Single subnet.

We have now got two users who need to connect back to a citrix system through our LAN/internet circuit but they need to be on a different subnet as the citrix system is the same as ours (good old

How do I go about setting up another subnet for these users when they are connected to our current LAN/IP range?

Appreciate help with this as I have never done it before

If there are only 2 users, you may setup TCP/IP manually on their NIC adapters.
Just set static IP in your LAN, setup properly DNS, Subnet and Gateway.

Then under TCP/IP settings click on "Advanced" and on top window you will see your manually setup IP address, for example Here you just add another subnet for them, BUT WITHOUT GATEWAY! So, for example, you setup for him, mask and that's it.

So he/she will be able to participate in both subnets, and
He/she will NOT became a router between those newtoks, so no worry.

do you mean our whole LAN needs to be static? we currently use DHCP to issue most IPs

You can pick two ips from same subnet and give those ips to your new users.

To make those two ips unique for these user you can exculed them (ips) from dhcp pool.

No, of course not.
I assume you have DHCP range from, for example, to So in this example first 50 IP addresses are for Static IP assignment, so you can assign them manually to static devices (printers, routers, managed switches, servers...)

So, pich two IP addresses from OUTSIDE DHCP range, check if they are not assiged to any other device, and assigne them to those two computers.

Then follow my instructions from my first post and assign to those two computers also ANOTHER IP subnet fortheir needs.
