"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It's not really possible, if you want your old data in vCenter 5.5, you need to perform an upgrade on the 4.1 server, to upgrade from 4.1 to 5.5.

Remove the old ESXi hosts from current vCenter 4.1.

Add ESXi hosts to new vCenter 5.5.

If you do not want to retrieve the old performance charts then remove the host from vCenter 4.1 and add them to vCenter 5.5, then upgrade the ESXi host to 5.5

(it's not really a move, it's a remove and add).

This does not affect the running VMs.

1. Connect to vCenter Server 4.1 using vSphere Client.

2. Select and Right Click Host Server.

3. Select Remove.

4. Connect to vCenter Server 5.5 using vSphere Client.

5. Right Click your Datacentre

6. Click Add Host or CTRL+H

7. Follow the wizard, enter root username and password.
