Footnote Reference Styling

I have a word document in which I use footnotes/end-notes. I have manage to successfully change the default style for the footnote/end note text but I am really struggling with finding out how I can change the style of the footnote reference (ie: the little number that has been placed at various locations in the document.)

I wish to change the default style so it is applied to every new document, I do not want to navigate through the existing document changing each footnote reference number individually...

A dummies guide would be amazing and secure the points, thank you..

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi have you tried to select the little number, right-click and select Style...
(I'm using Word 2010). It should come up with the Footnote Reference style selected. Then hit the Modify button and change the font etc to suit your requirements.
Footnote Reference StyleIf not there, there are a number of other ways to access the styles to modify them, the Footnote Reference is the one you want.

Thanks for that. I too am on 2010 but my right click menu is different to yours (see attachment). I cannot seem to see a Footnote Reference style in my style list

Sorry I should have said select the little number in the footnote itself, at the bottom of the page... they use the same style.
