You are using the wrong sp3.  You have sql 2008 R2 while using an SP3 designed for sql 2008.

Your sql 2008 R2 seems to be on the latest SP2 for the version.

Understood, we can skipped this update entirely.  But 2 questions:

1.  Please explain why there is 2 version sql2008 and sql2008 R2? (to be honest
when we installed it, we never intended sql2008 R2, we thought it was sql2008)

2. Why did my Windows 8 Pro Update Check identify this download as an update to my sql2008?

please explain.
Eugene ZCommented:
1. MS planned to release Sql2010 but did sql2008 R2
consider this as an another sql version like sql2005 sql2000

2. you have sql2008 installed on this box
