ESX 4.1u3 DL380 G5 to G8 upgrade

So I'm 95% sure I should just move over the drives and copy all the data back after reinstalling ESX but can they just be moved over and function correctly? Also will 4.1u3 work with the G8 or do I need/should go up in version? Thanks!

Other things that need changing. Anything else?

1) Drive Caddies
2) Memory can not be moved over

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Install your ESXi on SD card or USB flash drive on the G8.

then restore your VMs.

4.1 U3 is compatible with DL380 G8.

I would consider upgrading to ESXi 5.1, and maybe leave 5.5 until at least U1, with the current issues.

Make sure you download the OEM VMware ESXi from HP.

You can move the drives over if you get clone caddies,

(rather expensive due to the useless rotating lights)
