Inadvertent download & now can't get rid of "Sweetpacks"
Hello,
Big mistake this morning. I downloaded something unknowingly and along with it, I got something called "Sweetpacks". It immediately started infesting my browsers, changing the appearance of things and spamming me with all sorts of junk.
I googled for a solution and found lots of links. However, the first 2-3 places I went wanted me to download various other apps to do the cleanup. But how can you be sure which recommendations are legit and which ones are taking advantage of the infested to infest you again?
I would appreciate it if someone could give me some clear steps on how to proceed or direct me to a site I can trust which will tell me how to get the job done.
Thanks

Although you might eventually have to try using the System Restore function, it is not a good first step. It does nothing to address the actual infector files (they probably reside in your user profile).
The advice from tzucker (http:#a39556200) is excellent and will step you through the work that needs to be done.

Great help. Thanks!
After restoration, run Malwarebytes Antimalware.
