Replacing a Dell Precision 690 hard drive

I have a Dell Windows 7 disk. Do I need to run anything on the hard drive, before running the Windows installation? The former hard rive crashed and I ordered this one from Dell a while ago. Just didn't have the time to install it till now. Computer is out of warranty.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Check the BIOS and confirm the SATA mode is set to AHCI.

Then just boot the Windows 7 DVD and let it do the install.    That's all you need to do.

how big is the drive?  i see the product details on this system and is dated 2006 and shows supported capacity of up to 750gb
you don't need to run anything before the install
What i do during the install, is make sure all existing partitions are deleted
here a very nice guide for a fresh install :

but what Dell disk do you have ?  a factory reset disk ?  or a specific install disk for your PC (this can contain drivers and software also)
