iTunes 11 Network Library sharing on Windows domain

Hi Guys

We have an office of Windows 7 machine's running on a domain and sharing itunes librarys.

The users are having issues with the library shares dropping off or not being visible at all.

The current situation in the office all users are able to see user B, user A can see user C for a period of time before C disappears from the shared library, user D cannot be seen. Despite this user D can see user A's shared library.

We don't know much about iTunes so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Optimus

What make, model, and firmware revision is your router?  A lot of routers don't play well with the bonjour protocol, which is what Apple programs and devices use to see each other on the network.
Have you updated all the PC's to iTunes 11 and have you run the apple software update application to ensure they are all running the latest releases?

Hi Team

All users are now up to date with 11.1.1  The router being used is an ASUS DSL-12U with firmware 1.0.4.1.

The user who is having the most difficulty with not being able to see shared librarys is not able to update automatically via itunes or download the installer file from the Apple websites.

Windows firewall is also disabled for this user
You could try downloading the latest iTunes installation file to another computer and copying it to the computer with the update issue and running it manually. Hopefully this will resolve the shared library issue.
Hi Wilkok

This is the method I used to update the user who cannot update automatically, even with the manual update they are not able to see the other user
If you have a user who can't download updates or download the installer file, the  problem on that person's system is far broader than iTunes related, they have a networking issue of some kind.  i would be looking at their ethernet driver, network settings, etc., and taking the focus off of itunes for that user.

Also, try updating the firmware on your router, which is now up to 1.0.4.9.
There has been issues where the security software on a windows machine has blocked access to the ports required to run the apple updates, home sharing and so on.

What security software are you running, and is is up to date?

To test if it is you security software, try disabling it t test the apple software update and home sharing, if after you have disabled it you are still having this issue, then I would look at network hardware/software/setting issue with this PC.
Disabled Windows firewall on all machines now and everything appears to be running nicely, however I noticed that there were expections for iTunes and Bonjour in allowed programs.

Any additional ports that we should open up ?
