That's a bit like comparing chalk and cheese!

HP P2000 is a SMB SAN, Dell Compellent is Enterprise Storage.

You should be comparing Dell Compellent versus HP1000, or HP 2000 versus Dell PowerVault.

Yes, Dell Compellant is more in a league with HP EVA 8100/6100/4100 seriees.

I agree with the previous comments, the Compellent is enterprise class and the P2000 is SMB.

HP P20000 is more along the line of Dell Powervault/Equallogic versus Compellent which is more along the line of HP 3Par/EVA.

I would also take a loon at the EMC VNXe and Netapp 2240 series if you're looking to do more than just block.  With VMware the EMC has integrated vCenter connecitivity out of unisphere and Netapp has plug-ins for VMware based backups/near line restores, etc..

HP 2000 very good low costs iSCSI solution. We've installed many, but we've also had a few outright failures!

Another knock on the P2000 that we've seen is that if you have SATA drives and you want to expand the diskgroup by a few drives it can take many days, at which time you're vulnerable if a drive fails since it can't rebuild

I have first hand experience using Compellent storage and have been using there SAN before they were purchased by Dell. We are using the 40 Series controllers with a mix of fiber and ssd drives.

The compellent is easy to manage.
Co-pilot support is excellent and the SAN's call home feature is a second pare of eye watching the SAN 24/7

We are very pleased with our Compellent which was far cheaper than going for a EMC, NetApp etc..
