Sonicwall VPN Client "Failed to renew the IP address for the virtual interface" with Windows Server 2012

We have been using a Sonicwall TZ 100 with a Windows 2003 server as the DHCP server for several years.  The Sonicwall Global VPN client worked fine.

We recently decommissioned the Windows 2003 server and replaced it with a Windows 2012 server.

The Windows 2012 server is now doing DHCP with the same scope of IP addresses as the old server... which is totally removed from the network.

When we try to VPN into the office, it accepts the username and password and gets to:

"Renewing the IP address for the virtual adapter"

It times out with the error message: "Failed to renew the IP address for the virtual adapter".

DHCP in the Sonicwall is disabled.  We have changed the setting in the Sonicwall to point ip requests to the new server (different IP than the old)... but still get the same message.

We have tried different users, and have removed and recreated the VPN client users profile.  No change.

It seems that Windows Server 2012 is restricting or handling the IP addresses differently.

Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Turned out to be an issue with DHCP on the Windows 2012 server. We did not notice the Server issue as all our devices have fixed IP addresses. When we attached a new device it could not get an ip automatically.

We investigated and found the issue on the server.  Once that was corrected... the new device received an IP automatically, and then the Sonicwall VPN clients were also able to obtain an IP.
