Power OFF the Virtual Machine?

The VM is not being backed-up?

A Tasks is not being run on the VM?

You have the correct permissions to change the hardware.
Are you trying to HotPlug memory ? What type of OS is installed on the machine? Only certain versions are supported for hotplug. Also you need to enable CPU/Memory Hotplug on the VM before you use the feature. The hardware version needs to be 7 or later, OS needs to be windows 2008 or later. If your VM can't support hotplug you need to shutdown the machine and add memory.

hanccocka,
It is the same on vm's that are powered on or off.

The vm's are being backed up except a test vm.

What do you mean "A task is not being run on the VM"?

I tried right-clicking and "add a premision" but it never saves when hitting ok.

achaldave,
Hotplug? I tried to turn that on too but that screen is greyed too.

Win7 on the off-line test maching, Win server 2008 on the rest of the vm's
e.g. Task is not in progress, e.g. Backup! Snapshot!, vMotion!

Windows 7 does not support hotplug.

Can you edit any VM settings?

e.g. add a vCPU?
Edit VM settings: No for memory, CPU, Video, VMCI device, SCSI controller
Yes for hard disk, CD/DVD, Network adapter, Floppy
Does this occur with all VMs?

Are you connected direct to vCenter Server or ESXi?

Are you sure the VM is not Power-ON, because the settings you can edit are Hot Plug, e.g. they can be editted, added and removed whilst VM is on!
Yes, all VMs.

I'm connecting from my desktop computer using vSphere Client 5 to vCenter

The Win7 vm has the pause icon on top of it. It is powered off. The other VM's are on.

It was paused. I thought it was off. It's now off and I can edit the memory, etc.

Case closed.
