Pinging from one xpmode machine hangs

On one workstation, I noticed the following. I go into xpmode. I ping the main server and ping just hangs there for a couple of seconds and then I get <1ms response times four times. I checked the cabling, memory using, switched network cards, even changed the Mac address to cover all bases.

Could the drives disconnecting at their designated times be causing this?

Also, I noticed that xpmode machines slow down over time. Why?
