Tpying stalling problem

I don't really know where to start, We have a small office and recently replaced all our PCs. With new Dell Windows 7 PC's. 2 users so far have had problems where they will be typing and it will not exactly stall. I've seen before in other cases where I'll be typing and some computer will stall and I'll look up and then the computer will catch up and what i had typed will start appearing on the screen. this isn't exactly whats happening. Whats happening is it'll stall and nothing will be typing on screen and most keys will do nothing you can hit enter a few times and then the cursor will move down a few lines. One example a user was trying to type KGAN and what typed was k and nothing else. Its pretty random like that and on more then one PC. I can't think of what to look at.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Possibly a little more information required.

Networked computers?  If so to what?  Internet connections?  Which application is this happening in, browser, word processor or something else or everything?

Anti-virus installed?  If so, which one?

Yes, its a law firm we're online. Small Bushiness server 2011. DSL Internet. I observed it happening in Word and Outlook 2013. The users tell me it happens in Internet explorer and Excel as well pretty mush anything that can be typed in. We use Symantec Antivirus.

I'd try Windows Task Manager and see what processes are running and whether anything is hogging the CPU.  I suspect not.  If there was a CPU hog I'd expect applications to be slowing down.

Also try Sysinternals Process Explorer which is Task Manager on steroids.  See if all processes being used can be identified as being legitimate.  This looks like something grabbing your keystrokes and not correctly passing them on.  Whether this is a Windows or application fault is unknown yet but I'd still be very suspicious as to this activity occurring.

test if it also happens in notepad, or word pad
verify it is not running tasks - like updates  downloading and installing, or malware scanning
also - after a while, do the missing letters appear on the screen or not?

It does happen in notepad, no not updates are running. And no its not like that delay  you're thinking of where if you stop typing the letters start to appear

And see what happens if you disconnect a computer from the network.  See if the problem goes away or still stays.
