Which Netbackup files / folders hold the policies, catalogs , NBU data etc

We're planning to upgrade from 7.0.x to 7.6 tomorrow &
I plan to take Win2008 R2's bare metal backup prior to
upgrade for fallback in case of problem.

Customer wants to go ahead even though Ver 7.6 is not
GA (Generally Available yet).

If I restore back, all the old NBU data (eg: catalogs, Activity
Monitor, logs, policies will be outdated).  Prior to restoring
back to old files, which are the files / folders I need to copy
out from my master & media servers (so that after restore/
fallback, I'll apply these files to get latest NBU data/logs)?

Is there some sort of NBU database that needs to be copied
out & reapplied after the restore?

Any other things to watch out for ?

Hi,

Many things to watch out for.
You must perform an upgrade to NetBackup 7.6 as described in the portal
documentation. Before upgrading to 7.6 you should update NetBackup OpsCenter 7.6.
Also, before the upgrade, a catalog backup should be created (after it is sanitised) from of any inconsistencies) to provide a backup of the catalog in case of a failed upgrade.

All about upgrading to 7.6 is to be found in the Symantec portals, click here to login.

What I have done in the past is create a system state backup of the NBU server, backup NetBackup folder (c:\program files\veritas\netbackup) and backup catalog files.

One thing to remember is that if 7.6 is not GA, you might have a tough time getting Symantec support.

Yes, we're aware we need to fix any catalog inconsistencies before upgrade.

Thanks for the advice that 7.6 is not GA which Symantec will not support.

For this reason, the fallback plan & the system state backup is crucial.
However, the folder "c:\program files\veritas\netbackup" will contain the
7.6 binaries, so if we reapply it back, the 7.6 binaries will overwrite the
older version binaries.  Are you able to give more specific files / folders?

Have you already installed NetBackup 7.6?  If you haven't then it should be okay with the plan above.
