XP Password renewal issue

Hi guys,

Just saw a client yesterday that had an old XP machine which asks for a password renewal on a regular basis. I can understand how this would be the case if it was on a domain, but it's not. It's one of 16 PCs networked together with a Windows 7 file server (what they would call their server).

This is the only PC on the network being asked for a password renewal.

Thoughts?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Sounds like the local group policy has a password policy configured. To check this follow the steps below on the XP machine.

Click start>Run
Type "gpedit.msc"
Browse to "Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Account Policies\Password Policy
Look over the values in this policy and adjust them according to your needs.

If you have any questions about how or what the settings apply let us know.
