rd web configuration on server 2008 not working

I have a windows server 2008 that I'm trying to get users to be able to use from outside the network.  I've followed the instuctions below as directed.

The problem is the once I log in from the landing page and I choose remote desktop, It doesn't let me connect using rdp.  I want machines that aren't on the domain to connect as well.  Once this is working I'll add published apps.

Please help!  metalfubar

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you want an external user that is not part of the domain then it will never work using RDP, Unless you have them use a login ID that is in the Domain.

All users of RDP  must also be users of the Remote desktop users security group and each machine they are connecting to must also  permit each user.

I already have that.  I opened ports for rdp on the box and it worked.

It might be a certificate issue.  Do you need an ssl issued by a 3rd party or will a self signed cert work?  I can assign applications but not launch them.
