Is there a way to limit who can sign a PDF form?

I am using Acrobat X with Livecycle ES2

Does anyone know a way to limit who can sign a PDF with their digital signature?

For example:

I create a form in LiveCycle and put the finished form in to a public managers directory in Windows.

For this specific form only “Manager2” and “Manager8” are authorized to sign it with their digital signatures. All other 15 managers can open the form, but when they attempt to sign it, get an error saying they are not authorized, or something similar.

Is this possible within Adobe Acrobat?

Note: Please do not suggest adjusting the Windows file/directory permissions, as this is not an option.

I am open ears for all Adobe suggestions.

Kindly advise.

As far as I know, you cannot limit who can sign in a certain signature field. The way I handle this is I have two fields: One dropdown list where the signer selects either a name or a role from a list, and then the actual signature field (which only becomes available after a valid selection is made).

This still does not prevent somebody from signing in the wrong spot (after selecting the wrong name/role), but it makes it more obvious who is supposed to sign.

Just like with a paper document, you need to verify that a signature is good before accepting (and potentially redistributing) the signed document.

Hope that helps.

I see. Your alternative does sound like a great idea though.

Would you mind sharing your code or provide a visual example, for the drop down to make the signature field appear when the correct name is chosen?

Nevermind, I figured it out ;)
