V2V does not work via convertor

I have a pretty big vmware workation vm (about 200 GB) which I try to v2v to vcenter 5.1. It fails each time, change bandwith throttling, changed almost anything but it keeps on failing.
It is over wifi I'm doing this but that should not be the issue, did that before.

In the past I remember a similar issue then I connected directly to an esxi with vcenter convertor to convert a vm to esxi. Now it won't let me telling me the vcenter is "in charge" (even when I bring the vcenter service down.

Please advise howto continue.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Remove the ESXi server, temporary from vCenter Server.

and then Convert directly to ESXi. (it will not complain then, new feature added to vCenter 5.1, you cannot Convert direct to ESXi, if managed by vCenter Server).
