I have a Lenovo Laptop running Windows 8, it had a misconfigured device a WAN miniport.  The WIFI kept dropping out.

I followed the guide online about removing the mini port, however now I can no longer connect to the server share,  I have tried configuring a the preferred dns to see if that worked but no joy,  the vpn does not work now and adding a hot record for the server does not work either.

However the internet works.

Any ideas ?

I am not sure what causes the WAN miniport to not function. That happened on my Lenovo Windows 8 laptop also. The key point is that it did not cause any issue and I use VPN on this laptop.

Try uninstalling VPN, then uninstall the main network devices. Reinstall the network devices and then reinstall VPN. See if that works. Leave the WAN miniport alone.

I ran the Windows 8 Refresh and that got rid of the WAN miniport problem permanently. Refresh is a bit aggressive (read about it in Help) but it is less of a problem that reimaging the machine.
