Calculate average of X largest / smallest numbers

Folks,
I am using the following function to calculate the average of the five largest numbers:
=AVERAGE(LARGE(A:A,{1,2,3,4,5}))

What I would like to be able to do is rather than hard code the function to find the X number of largest or smallest values is to enter in a cell the number. For example, cell C2 = the number of X largest numbers (acting like a variable) and C3 = the number of X smallest numbers (acting like a variable)

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can use a version like this

=AVERAGE(LARGE(A:A,ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&C2))))

....but it's now an "array formula" so it needs to be confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

So if C2 contains 3 that will give you the average of the largest 3 numbers in column A
