Report Lable is blank after dragging in field

Hello,

I have noticed that some reports do not function like they should.
What I mean is that a field I drag to the report header does not have a lable with the fields name.

I am using 2010.

thank you

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It looks like a text box not a label.

I drag the text box to the Detail part like I always do for other reports and the lable attaches to it.  I dont know if there is an issue with previous reports in designed in previous versions of access.  I seem to remember hearing about an issue going from 2007 to 2010 but I dont know if this was it.

Where you are dropping that control does not look like the report header?
That looks like the Group or Page Header...

Can you post a wider screenshot?

I have never seen this before...

Is this for all fields?
For all reports?
For all databases?
For all users?

Try running the Compact/repair utility, then try dropping in a field?

...also , that report looks fairly basic...
What happens if you recreate the report?
(DO not simply "Copy" the report, ...literally create the report again.)

I dropped it in many different locations...header, detail, all over.  It is the Page Header.

It is for all fields in this report.  I am thinking it is the format of the report.
I made a new report and the lable does get attached to the field like it should.  I dont really think this report is corrupted though.

So, does this mean you actually "recreated" this same report?, ...And the label text was visible when you dropped in an existing field?

If so, then you can call it it whatever you like, but the issue seems to be with the report...

But I think I know what is happening...
When you have a controls in a "layout" and then you delete the label, a "Ghost" label will still remain as a "placeholder".  This placeholder label will be blank (like what you are showing in your screenshots)...

So to be sure. click on the blank label and delete it.
Then click on the corresponding textbox and delete that.
They look like they are gone.
Now, if you click again where these controls once were, ...you may/will still see these "ghost" controls
Keep clicking on these controls (the ghost label and the ghost textbox) until no more remain.
Then drop another existing field in to test.

This is why I am not a big fan of the layouts.
They are great when you just want to insert/delete/move a control, ...but for anything custom after that, I clear the layouts.
With the layouts cleared, you have to move the controls manually, (but this is what you want for custom designs anyway)  now, at least you have none of these issues...

I didnt recreate the same report.  Just a blank one with same record source

What I am looking to do is simply be able to drop a field on a report in the detail or header section and the field goes to the detail and the lable goes to the page header or group header or which ever header it is.

I remember many different formats you coudl apply in 2007.  I dont see those in 2010...just Themes.  They took them out?

I remove the layout of the report.  I dont know if it is somethign to do with the layout.  Maybe it was corrupted.

I think you have that reversed...
In 2010 they offer layouts, but not themes...

The below pic are the Themes, correct?  I have 2010.

Yes, but that is not while you are creating the report, ...
Which is what I thought you were referring to...

You can only apply the "layouts/Formats" when you create the report.
