I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The ESXi 5.1 Host Server is not using a FREE ESXi License?

What make are the Host Servers?

pzozulkaAuthor Commented:
The 5.1 host I'm trying to add is a DELL R420, and since it's brand new it came with a 60 day evaluation license that it's currently running on.

Was the license pre-installed on the ESXi Host, this was the issue I was eluding to?

Newly released Acronis True Image 2019

Yes, it came pre-installed with the DELL server.

We've seen this before, it's possible it's the evaluation license on the ESXi host server, that is causing the issue, and may need to be removed, before it can be added.

But as this is a OEM Pre-installed Dell Server, I would refer you to Dell Technical Support.

Did you obtain vCenter Server from them also?

If you connect to your host directly using the vSphere client what does it list the license as?

Did you buy a vsphere license with your server? Sometime manufactures do the base install but you need to input the license key..

pzozulkaAuthor Commented:
It is listed under Evaluation Mode -- No License Key (Expires 12/3/2013).

pzozulkaAuthor Commented:
I did not buy vSphere with the server as we already have existing license on our old servers which we will apply to the new servers once we retire the old ones.

If you connect directly to the ESXi host, add an ESXi License Key, can you add it to vCenter Server?

is the expiry date March or December?

pzozulkaAuthor Commented:
Since the original post, I was able to add it to vCenter. However, each at the very moment of adding -- I got this error message:

Error detected on 10.0.128.4 in DataCenterName: Agent unable to save configuration to disk: Error syncing firmware configuration: vmodl.fault.SystemError.

I have two more hosts to add to vCenter. I will give them appropriate licenses before trying to add to vCenter and see if the same issue comes up.

Expires in December.
