netscape.net email addresses gone?

I found an old address book with netscape.net email addresses.  Do those addresses still exist or have they been converted to AOL.com.

I tried sending emails but I got a hard bounce saying address does not exist.
Yes, these are old contacts; high school contacts!

The MX records for netscape.net do indeed point at AOL's servers, so mail that you send to @netscape.net addresses do actually go to a server that AOL controls.

But there's no telling how much has changed on those servers, whether they're accepting mail for this old domain name, or how many of their old accounts they've pruned and deleted due to inactivity. Chances are, most of your old highschool netscape contacts are no longer valid accounts on AOL and emails sent to them will bounce.
