Oracle error when connect from 12.1 client

Hi,
I have the following configuration and database installation:

Oracle Database Server:
O.S. Windows XP SP3
Oracle version: 10.1.0.2.0

Oracle Database Client:
O.S. Linux
Oracle version: 12.1.0.1.0

but when I try to connect to Oracle server from the client with sqlplus I get this error:

ora-03134: Connection to this Server Versions are no longer supported

seem a problem of Oracle version compatibility matrix
How Can I solve this issue, please give me steps!

Thanks in advance!

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Upgrade the 10g database or use an 11g client.
