Phone software like your phyically on the phone

Is there any Phone software that you can install on your computer where it acts like you are phyically on the phone when in use?

I need some kind of software that works with Comcast cable high speed internet..

I have a VOIP / Internet modem... I don't have any phones connected to the modem, nor do I really want to... However I would like to use my cat5/6 - Ethernet cable that is plugged into my local PC which is plugged into the firewall that connects to the modem to have the ability to use some sort of software phone that appears like you are physically on the phone. and if you have a mic and speakers it works the same way...

I used something like this at work, like interactive intelligence or cisco ava... something or another.. but can anything like this be done on a HOME network without a bunch of lines and extensions?

I am aware of those companys... I was just curious if I could use a software app (phone) that uses my existing Comcast number and looks like I am plugged right into the telcom port.

utilizing my PC for communication... not wanting to switch VOIP subscribers, or get a new number....just use my PC instead of a LAN line. with my existing phone number...

Ok, that makes it clearer. When I used Comcast a few years ago, the phone service was just a pots line when handed off to the customer, meaning a regular phone line. You could check with them to see if they have any application that they provide fir voip on a pc, but it would have to come from Comcast to tie into their systems.

I think that most likely they only provide a plain pots line, meaning that it is no different than a traditional phone service. You would have to get a card for the pc that has a phone line port and turn you computer into old-school phone.

It is delivered to via voip to the router, but the handoff to you it's as a regular phone (pots) line. As far as you are concerned it is just a normal phone line, unless Comcast gives you some other way to tie into the line.

See down at the bottom left of http://www.comcast.com/home-phone-service.html

Comcast will come to your home and set it up.

That is not what he is asking about.

The answer to his question is no. Comcast does not provide a program to make calls from your computer. They give you a regular phone line for making calls, so it is no different than any other phone provider.

They do have the ability to check voicemail online.
