Phone software like your phyically on the phone

Is there any Phone software that you can install on your computer where it acts like you are phyically on the phone when in use?

I need some kind of software that works with Comcast cable high speed internet..

I have a VOIP / Internet modem... I don't have any phones connected to the modem, nor do I really want to... However I would like to use my cat5/6 - Ethernet cable that is plugged into my local PC which is plugged into the firewall that connects to the modem to have the ability to use some sort of software phone that appears like you are physically on the phone. and if you have a mic and speakers it works the same way...

I used something like this at work, like interactive intelligence or cisco ava... something or another.. but can anything like this be done on a HOME network without a bunch of lines and extensions?

I am aware of those companys... I was just curious if I could use a software app (phone) that uses my existing Comcast number and looks like I am plugged right into the telcom port.

utilizing my PC for communication... not wanting to switch VOIP subscribers, or get a new number....just use my PC instead of a LAN line. with my existing phone number...

I bougtt the triple play for the price. Compared to just getting high speed and cable..
So it includes voip... I don't  own a physicak lan line phone.. so I was wondering if a ci ukd use a softphone on the pc in its place without the need to go buy a physical phone... not the end of world as my cell is my primary. Just curious.
