Implement Folder Redirection Server Essentials 2012 - pre-existing profiles

Hello Experts,

After using Essentials 2012 for a few months I'm trying to implement Folder Redirection. It works fine, unless a users profile pre-existed on a computer in the domain beforehand.

As you can see in the attached screenshot; Move the contents of Contacts to the new location is enabled in the GPO.

Am I missing something? I thought with that setting, any files that exist on the local computer are copied to the location specified in the GPO. The computers on the domain are all Windows 8.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Angeal

I'm assuming you rebooted or did a gpupdate /force, or checked RSOP to see that the policy is being applied?

Do they have proper permissions to the share?

Hello TMekeel,

Yes, I've done several reboots, GPUPDATE /force commands, and can confirm doing a GPRESULT shows the policy is being applied (see attached). The name of the GPO is "SBS Group Policy Folder Redirection".

Here are the permissions set on the root folder:

G:\ServerFolders\Folder Redirection
The owner is :  NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
NTFS Security rights :
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Allow  FullControl
BUILTIN\Administrators Allow  FullControl
IT\Domain Users Allow  AppendData, ReadAndExecute, Synchronize

Here are the permission set on the folder (after I logged into another computer in the domain):

\\itdc1\Folder Redirection\joe
The owner is :  IT\joe
NTFS Security rights :
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Allow  FullControl
BUILTIN\Administrators Allow  FullControl
IT\joe Allow  DeleteSubdirectoriesAndFiles, Modify, Synchronize

All of the folders (Pictures, Documents etc) are empty.

Thanks for your help,

Angeal

Is the user in the OU where the User policy is applied?  You said they had pre-existing profiles.
Did you link the GPO to their container?
It looks like they are not in the OU where the policy is applied.
SBS Group Policy Roaming Profiles
            Filtering:  Not Applied (Empty)

The GPO has no computer settings, just user settings.  This must be applied where there are users in the OU, not computers.

I may be reading that incorrectly, sorry.  I am 1/2 way through morning coffee  ;)

The name of the GPO is "SBS Group Policy Folder Redirection" and was automatically generated by the OS (Windows Server Essentials 2012) when I enabled Folder Redirection using the dashboard.

The policy was applied at the root level container (see attached).

Thanks and enjoy your Sunday morning coffee :)

Can we see the properties tab of the redirection GPO?

Have you checked the user security group where the users are added to?

AngealAuthor Commented:
Sorry, which properties tab are you talking about?

The users haven't been added to any group in particular. I've attached 2 more files showing the scope of the policy and WMI filters, again generated automatically by the server when I enabled Folder Redirection.
