Improve Mac to NTFS Network Share

I have a single iMac on our all windows serve 2003 network.  I notice that it takes about 1 minute for the login to be available. I get the little red dot telling me that no network login is available after reboot. It disappears after about 30 seconds - 1 minute.

Another thing is that on occassion, the network shares that I have set randomly disappear from the Mac, I have to manually remap them or log on and log off to force the script to map them.

We run Pro Presenter media presentation software that had a linked folder to one of those network shares and because Mac doesn't have a "refresh" like windows,  we can't see the new files that are added to that linked folder. I assume it's because of the communication between mac and windows server share.
