Help discovering multipath devices - HP EVA 4100 (HSV200) Lun

Hello.

I have trouble setting up multipath device in SLES11.

It is an old HP DL385 G2 server and SAN disks on HSV200 /HO EVA 4100)

When issuing multipath -ll it does not show anything. Also dmsetup snows "No devices found".

The only way I know something is connected is by listing direcotry:

/dev/disk/by-id/

where I can see th wwn-....

Hi

run the following command to get you HBA:

systool -c fc_host -v

you will see something like this for each HBA

  Class Device = "host1"
  Class Device path = "/sys/class/fc_host/host1"
    active_fc4s         = "0x00 0x00 0x01 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x01 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 "
    fabric_name         = "0x10000027f863f2fd"
    issue_lip           = <store method only>
    max_npiv_vports     = "255"
    maxframe_size       = "2048 bytes"
    node_name           = "0x20006c3be5c0b8b1"
    npiv_vports_inuse   = "0"
    port_id             = "0x011103"
    port_name           = "0x10006c3be5c0b8b1"
    port_state          = "Online"
    port_type           = "NPort (fabric via point-to-point)"
    speed               = "10 Gbit"
    supported_classes   = "Class 3"
    supported_fc4s      = "0x00 0x00 0x01 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x01 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 "
    supported_speeds    = "10 Gbit"
    symbolic_name       = "Emulex 554FLB FV4.1.450.7 DV8.2.0.145"
    tgtid_bind_type     = "wwpn (World Wide Port Name)"
    uevent              = <store method only>
    vport_create        = <store method only>
    vport_delete        = <store method only>

In my example out put you can see HBA is using as host1

to get your WWN

 cat /sys/class/fc_host/host1/port_name

you will see something like this: 0x21000024ff24beee

Now about your multipath question, this will sound silly but is mutipath is running ?

Here is some info that could help you :

Let me know if it helps you.

EVAs use an early version of *unified LUN presentation*, so both controllers share the same WWN (it is printed on a label on the rack it is housed in).

Asymetric Logical Unit Access can confuse some multipath software. Confuses the hell out of me since Google search replaces "ULP" with "up" and won't give me me postable URLs for PDFs explaining how ALUA works.

thanks,

the commands helped me figure it out

I did not labeled the two servers correctly, therefore i have connected the "wrong one"(the other one) to the SAN.

after connecting the right on everything is working as it should !
