imap in outlook

I was configuring my email as imap in outlook, think it downloaded emails from server and purged emails on server. Is this default action in outlook? I can't remember, was long time ago I used  imap. I don't know why outlook doesn't give warning about it.

Outlook 2003
exchange server 2003.

Is there a way to put back those emails to server? I have too many folders which may take time to go through each folder to move.

Should just be able to change the account to an exchange account and it will replicate the mail back onto the server.  I have not seen IMAP pull the email out and instead replicate it.  Did you perhaps configured a POP3 account instead?  Anyways what you would do is when you setup the account you would "leave a copy of the message on the server" is enabled.  This option is located on the advanced tab with in the email account properties within outlook.

Agree with @NRhode, sounds more like a POP3 configured account as it does pull down from server whereas IMAP typically keeps both in sync...

Since you have Exchange you should be using standard Microsoft Exchange settings on the outlook rather than either IMAP or POP...are you not able to do that?
