Deploy GPO to display a sepcific Icon on Taskbar

Hi All,

If someone could please shed some light on how to do the following.
I would like to deploy a GPO which pushes out a specific icon to the task bar.

Our company offers managed services and I would like to deploy a specific managed services icon on the right hands ide of the taskbar to all our clients. I would just like to deploy this one icon.

Regards,

Johannes.

(I am assuming you are using Windows 7 here)

You will need to create the shortcut with the icon and store it somewhere on the network. Then use Group policy preference setting (User configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Files) to copy the shortcut from the central location to the users' C:\Users\<profilename>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar folder. This will create the shortcut on the taskbar as required.

Yes correct Windows 7. Thanks for you feedback, however the icon is part of an application package and is deployed to the taskbar by executing and running an application so the solution you provided won't work.

Thanks.
So you just want to push and application using a GPO!? That's not what your question implied. Anyhow, does this application come with a .exe or .msi installer? I'll y and help but there are already lots of sites to help with application deployment. You can also look for other answered questions in EE regarding the same (search for application deployment GPO)
Hi Raj,

Thanks for getting back to me. I should have been more clear with my question. The application came with a .msi installer, so basically you double click the .msi installer and it place the icon on the taskbar. I would like to deploy this with Group Policy.
