copy sql server 2008 r2 database to another sql 2008 r2 database in the same instance

I created a backup up of SQL Server 2008 R2 and tried to restore to the same DB instance under a different DB name and the restore fails.  I also tried to restore the file to my local system of 2008 r2 express and the restore fails.  What is the best way to make a copy of a DB in sql server 2008 R2?

Hi ,

You cannot restore database if you have perform backup on SQL Server 2008 R2 and restoring on SQL Server 2008 because of downgrading versions.

Please provide me error so that i will try to let you know what exactly the issue is ?
Restoring on same instance can be the problem that you need to rename the files in the restore-action if not it will try to create the files over the original database and that will give an error .... so yes the exact error message will be helpfull.

'MOVE' is used to give files a new name
