SharePoint 2010 Quick Launch not showing

Very new to Sharepoint 2010.

Created a Document Library and said YES to Display this Document Library on Quick Launch.

Of course it does not show as a  Quick Launch.

Nothing is showing as a Quick Launch.

All I see on left side is Libraries, Lists and Discussions. If I click Libraries, then I see my document library. How can something that seems to be so simple be so hard.

Also, is there a way to change the Heading on the left side to say something other then Libraries or even add new Headings that I can then add different libraries to.

Make sure "sharePoint publishing feature" is enabled at site level and site collection level under site actions-site settings

I see below under Site Actions > Manage Site Features:

  SharePoint Server Publishing
Create a Web page library as well as supporting libraries to create and publish pages based on page layouts.

Above does not show as being Active. There is a Activate button you can click to activate it. Is that what you are talking about ?

Site Actions
Manage site features
Save site as template
Reset to site definition
Delete this site
Site Web Analytics reports
Site Collection Web Analytics reports

Yagya ShreeCommented:
Yes activate that but before you can activate this, you will need to activate is under "Site collection features" as well.

This will enable a settings called "Navigation" on your site settings page, which you can't see currently.

LibranDragonCommented:
Tree View and Quick launch will be available without the publishing feature activated

Yagya ShreeCommented:
Currently it seems that even when "thayduck" created new doc lib and selected the lib to show in quick launch, it did not show. Also he is able to see other libs on the home page.

So we are in troubleshooting mode and i am giving him a workaround.

i have a funny feeling thats it hidden with jscript..

Hi LibranDragon,

In the 1st comment you mentioned, you asked him to go to "Navigation". well, he wouldn't be able to go there without enabling the feature i asked.

ok, thats true, i didn't realise it..

Note, I do not see anything under Libraries and Lists on left side of site. Nothing appears as a Quick Launch.

Okay so go back to the steps which i asked about enabling feature

thayduckProgrammer AnalystAuthor Commented:
OK, I enabled Quick Launch and Tree View, now I see somethine called Site Content and under there it lists everything in this SharePoint site. I can click and it acts like a Quick Launch, but that is not what I want. I wanted to have Quick Launches under my Libraries and List. Those are still not there.

Check for web parts that may have been added to hide the quick launch as a default..

Hi,
@yagyashree: for enabling / showing Quick Launch you do not need Publishing features.

And I agree with LibranDragon that it seems to be an override of the styles to hide the links inside the quick launch (as the root elements like Libraries are still being shown).

Could you please open the page in IE and do a right-click -> "Show source" and search for
<div class="ms-quickLaunch">

Inside this container you should see now all the links. Are there links to your libraries (HTML LI elements)?
If yes, then there is somewhere on your page some script part which hides the entries.

Sorry but still not working.
Will try Rainer suggestions next then go back to other suggestion.

Is there a bug in SharePoint 2010.
It seems like such a simple thing to do.

I am still waiting for screenshot. Also you can get the viewlsts page by clicking "View all site content" on your site home page

Here is Home Page and View List.

On left side, for example, I want to see the library called Application or any of the libraries to list right underneath the heading called Libraries. Right now, I have to click the drop down icon to see all the libraries. Maybe this is the way it is suppose to work and I am just wrong in my understanding about Quick Launch.

For Library navigation, 1st check the Quick launch config (Site Settings -> look and Feel -> Quick Launch), do you have any entries under Libraries.

If, yes, then I assume that there is jquery in use currently to expand on hover.
0
thayduckProgrammer AnalystAuthor Commented:
Yes, there are entries under Libraries.

Do not know what a jquery is.

Really am confused. All I want is Quick Launch to work. The only way it works is if you hover over the word Libraries. To me that is a extra step the user has to do to see the Applications document library.

Also, if I create a applications document library, I only want that library displaying on my sharepoint site only. Right now,  if you go to the Home page, you also can see my applications document library.

Hi thayduck,
sorry for my delay - you posted the part of the quick launch HTML source yesterday - is there something coming afterwards like

For best support - could you perhaps attach the whole HTML source - just that we can check any client scripting references that might hide the links.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,
thanks for sharing the source. From there you can see that there are entries for the libraries and lists.
I would bet that they are hidden due to adjustments in a stylesheet as there seems to be no reference to jQuery nor inline style change.

Could you please add/attach the following style sheet file:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/_layouts/styles/CN_custom.css" />
?

I guess that there is an override of the style class li.dynamic or/and a.dynamic.

Thanks.
Rainer

0
Rainer JeschorCommented:
Hi,
you should be able to save the file by entering this in your IE browsers location bar:
http://yoursharepointurl.com/_layouts/styles/CN_custom.css

Just adjust the domain name to your Sharepoint site.
Thanks

Finally got this answer from people who created my sharePoint site:

We use flyout menus in the template, mainly because some sites have so many items in their Quick Launch it becomes hard to read.  It’s something easily switched per site, though, just let me know if you’d rather list out the items instead and I can change it in your master page.

So I will close this question and award the points to all who helped.
