Can I uncheck the "Independent" mode check box without risk of data loss on a VM disk that needs to be availible for snapshots?
I am getting a backup (Veeam 7.0) report that states that one of the disks on my production SQL server is not being processed because it is in Independent mode. The problem is that Independent disks are unaffected by snapshots and the backup routine requires snapshots of the VM and virtual disks before processing. It appears that I can shut down the VM and change the mode quite easily but I'm hesitant to do so without knowing whether or not it could put data on the disk at risk. Is this just a routine disk operation?
