ASA 8.3 issues with nat(inside, outside) dynamic interface

When I enter this command, it comes back with Invalid input detected at ^ marker, pointing to "dynamic".

Where should I look to troubleshoot this?

You are probably trying to type it in while in global config mode. The dynamic command is for use in objects. If all internal ip addresses should be translated, you should type it like this:

object network obj-any
 nat (inside,outside) dynamic interface

If it is a specific internal subnet, you need to create an object for it. For example:

object network obj-
 nat (inside,outside) dynamic interface
