var ctl = document.getElementById('<%=email.ClientID%>');

Request.Form["email"] in the server side and document.getElementById('<%=email.ClientID%>'); in client side or by using jquery $("#email").val()

For jquery, it will still need the ClientID

var ctl =  $('#<%=email.ClientID%>');
