How to turn 40 printed pages of text into digital text - i.e. MS Word.

Someone lost a file but has it all as a printout.

How to do this?

Thanks

Most scanners and HP All-in-Ones have scanning software with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) that can convert pages into text.  You usually have to do some editing corrections to get the text completely right.

There are plenty of free "PDF to Text" online conversion sites out there too.  If you have Acrobat Pro you can scan the document to a PDF and use the Recognize Text tool.

Or go to FedEx Kinko's and they'll do it for you.

You will have to scan the document and use OCR software to create editable text from the scanned image.

Most scanners come with OCR software bundled HP scanners include IRIS for example - or use can use one of the many free OCR packages such as http://www.paperfile.net/

you can even take pictures of it - you don't have a scanner - then convert it to txt with any OCR application you like

I have a HP Scanner with a document feeder CM1312 and I think I remember seeing an IRIS CD.

Ive never set up the scanner to scan to PC, I will be very lucky if it scans to one .pdf versus 40 separate pages.

Sweet if it does.  Sweet if I can find that DVD
