Burning a DVD from iMovie on newer iMac

Good day everyone. I have a newer iMac and it came with iLife '11 but did not come with iDVD. I know the nstory about Apple not including it anymore.

My question is, is there an free alternative to get my iMovies burned on to DVD?

iMovie can export the movie to a file which you can then burn to DVD without iDVD which was really designed for creating nice splash screens, navigation systems etc.

Open iMovie and select the entire project or specific section and then select the SHARE option in the menu at the top of the screen then choose Export Movie to create a mp4 video file or QuickTime mov file.

You then use the free DVD burner program called BURN.

Drop the movie file onto Burn .. it will encode the movie file to DVD format and then prompt to insert the DVD and away you go!!

Here's a video tutorial describing the steps above

BTW - if you can get your hands on a DVD with iLife 09 you can install iDVD onto your iMac and it will still work with the latest version of iLife 11 iMovie
This apple discussion tells you how to install iDVD from older iLife 09
