How can I switch off automatic formula entry when arrow cursor key pressed?

I type any vale in any cell.
When I press the arrow key to go to an adjacent cell, the value changes in the original cell.

eg Enter "VALUE" in A1
Press down arrow key
A1 value becomes "VALUE+A2"

How do I turn this feature off please?

If I open the same file on a different PC arrow keys work as normal, without formula function.
It must be something to do with the setup within Excel options on the one PC.

Hi,

Does the problem persist when you close all EXCEL.exe sessions & open a single instance again?

(i.e. close all open Microsoft Excel applications, & open [just one] again)

Thank you

I cleared the "Excel8.0" folder and the "VBE" folder from the User "Temp" folder, rebooted and it seems to work ok now...

I will see how it goes on Monday and will close this question then.

Once opened in Safe Mode what were you going to suggest please?

Fanpages suggestion regarding single sesseions got me to thinking about the Temp files created by Excel which have caused me problems before.

After clearing these and rebooting the pc everything seems fine.
