HP Server ML310e G8 and RAM Modules

Hi there,

I have an HP ML310e G8 Server which seems to have an issue with the RAM modules I've purchased for it.  As far as I could tell, KTH-PL313LV/8G's should be compatible, yet the server hangs at the boot screen with them in the correct DIMM's A,B&C (In fact any combination - even with just one module in DIMM A).

When we use the 2GB Samsung module that comes with the server we have no problems.

Is this likely to be a bios setting or a RAM exchange?

Thanks in advance.

I've checked... latest BIOS from HP's web site is J04 dated August 24th. Which is exactly the same shown on the picture you posted. Let me think about something else...

yeah, been over to HP and verified that as-well.  Just seems to hate the RAM.

The new G8 servers only accept smart memory.  Memory that has been endorsed\tested by HP.

HP SmartMemory
ProLiant Gen8 servers introduce HP SmartMemory technology for DDR3 memory. HP SmartMemory enables
authentication of installed memory. This verifies whether DIMMs have passed our qualification and testing processes
and determines if the memory has been optimized to run on HP ProLiant Gen8 servers. Use of HP SmartMemory DIMMs
enables extended performance and manageability features for the 2P ProLiant Gen8 servers. HP SmartMemory supports
extended performance compared to third party memory for several DIMM types and configurations. Table 3 summarizes
these performance extensions.

This Memory isn't Smart at all! :-(

There is no way to disable the smart ram feature either, I called HP support and asked if it was just a BIOS setting.  The RAM I have will work with all models up G7, then from G8 onward you have to have the HP smart-memory.
