Release licenses for Small Business Server 2003

Hello,

We have a client who runs Small Business Server 2003. (Yes, I know this is no longer supported).  We will be migrating them to SBS 2011 in the next 2 months.  In the interim, I need to release some licenses that were being used because it surpassed the number of Installed Licenses.

Can this be done?  If so, how?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You cannot release licenses though rebooting will disconnect all active sessions, but if you're migrating to 2011 and have the correct number of CALs for that, Call Microsoft - they should provide CAL codes to enter into 2003.

Restart the Licencing Service.  If its an issue with active sessions then this should reset the counter to 0.

Ultimately you need more CALS.  As per leew's comment, Microsoft can still provide these.
