Distribution Group in Exchange2010 and Active Directoy

I would like to know the difference between changing the owner of a distribution group from AD/ Managed by tab and from Exchange/Distribution Group then open the distribution group /Group information tab/ then add a user to Managed By.

There is no difference between the 2 settings. They both do the same thing. You can update this in AD or Exchange. This is allowed to be set in both places becasue you can have Exchange managed entirely separate from AD. Large organizations that have an entire departments for AD and Exchange might use this as they want to isolate the changes that are being made.

Dont get confuse. because both are same. you can configured through both. but distribution list would be using only mail communication. so you may not use security purpose..

if you add the manager in DL. they can able to add or remove members from Distribution group.
