Novell Client and Windows 7 Unlock Issues

I have a user running Windows 7 Ultimate with Novell Client 2 SP3 (the latest release from Novell).  When the person attempts to unlock their computer, they enter their password and receive the following message/error:

The network password cannot be validated at this time because the connection to the Novell network was lost. Please enter the password for the Windows account to unlock the computer now, or wait and try the network password again later.

The person has to enter their password twice in order to gain access to the computer.

Any suggested assistance is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This is documented on the Novell.com site;

Make sure you have
- disabled power saving features on your network interfaces
- disabled hibernation on your system

Does that happen even if you try to unlock a few seconds (10-20, less than a minute) after it has been manually locked?

strivoli, for testing purposes, I usually will lock and attempt to unlock the computer. I believe this symptoms occurs regardless of the lock times.

I asked you to run that test because I suspect that happens only after an amount of idle time. I have the same idea as deroode how wrote you some tens of seconds before me.

Did you try the registry fix described in the mentioned article. Nici can cause this behaviour if you are using Dynamic Local User's;

The issue was resolved by going into the Novell Client Properties and selecting the Advanced Login tab. Scroll down to NMAS Authentication and set it to OFF.  Reboot the computer and login.  Test by locking the computer. After applying this fix, the user only has to enter their password one time.

The expert comments did not give me the solution.  I discovered the solution on my own.
