annotations vs marker interfaces

Hi,

Since we have annotations from java 5 are marker interfaces are obsole?

Do we stil need to use marker interfaces.
what are advatnages, disadvantages, practical uses of each one.

Please advise. Any ideas, resources, sample code highly appreciated. thanks in advance

Yes I think that's generally correct - a marker interface is really only needed when there's no other way to add meta data to a class.  An annotation is clearer and more flexible.

They are not obsolete yet, so you still need to use them (for example there is no annotation for the Serializable interface). But if you have the choice between a marker interface and an annotation use an annotation.
