can we move columns up or down after the table is made

is there any alter command to move a field up the list of fields in a table?

Not that I am aware of, but it is a database; does the order of the columns really matter?  You can get your data and display it any way you see fit.  Any application that depends on table layout is a poorly-designed application.

I agree with you and I knew everything you wrote.

I asked the question because I was designing the database and just like to see the fields back and forth inorder for further designing.

In most wyswyg schemas designers one is able to place the field.  So just wondering how they would work behind the scene?

Once your tale is created, you can always create a view of the table and set the order in any way you wish if this is just for viewing.

CREATE VIEW [View Name] AS
 SELECT Field1,Field2
 FROM [Source Table]
