Customize Performance reports

I'm want to review performance charts of a virtual machine from week ago.  When I go into the customize performance chart to set a date the option is greyed out and the only option I have is real time.  What do I need to do to get to my performance data from the past?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello try these.,

1
Select an inventory object and click the Performance tab.
2
Click Advanced.
3
Click Chart Options.
4
Select a metric group.
5
Select a time range.
If you choose Custom, do one of the following.
¦
Select Last and set the number of hours, days, weeks, or months for the amount of time to monitor the object.
¦
Select From and select the beginning and end dates.
You can also customize the time range options by customizing the statistics collection interval setting.
6
Select the chart type.
When selecting the stacked graph option, consider the following.
¦
You can select only one item from the list of measurements.
¦
Per-virtual-machine stacked graphs are available only for hosts.
¦
Click a counter description name to display information about the counter’s function and whether the selected metric can be stacked for per-virtual-machine graphs.
7
In Objects, select the inventory objects to display in the chart.
You can also specify the objects using the All or None buttons.
8
In Counters, select the data counters to display in the chart.
You can also specify counters using the All or None buttons.
Click a counter name to display information about the counter in the Counter Description panel.
9
Click Apply to see the results.

Thanks,
Avinash

I don't have this host in the vCenter.  I guess this is a requirement?

if you have no vCenter Server, performance data is not saved.

I have vCenter but I can't add a fourth host.  What license do I need fro more than three hosts?

vCenter Standard, rather than Foundation.

I think I have Essentials kit....is there an upgrade price or do I have to pay full price for the Standard license.  It is fairly expensive.

You cannot upgrade Essentials Kit, you would have to purchase

new VMware vSphere Licenses for Hosts and vCenter Server Standard.

You may be able to approach a partner, that may be able todo you a deal!

If I add the guest that I want to view performance data from to the vCenter now, will the data be available?

Andrew Hancock (VMware vExpert / EE MVE^2)VMware and Virtualization ConsultantCommented:
No, data is only stored in the vCenter database.

You do not have a vCenter database, so soon all the performance data will be gone.

I see now that vCenter is needed to log activity over a time period.

Thank you!
